Aaaaahhhhhh, Vermont became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage today – and it is the FIRST state to do so with a legislature’s vote! The House vote overrode Gov Jim Douglas’s veto of same-sex marriage.
Vermont was the first state to legalize civil unions for same-sex couples way back when……but today the state joins Connecticut (wahoo, I’m proud of my state!), Massachusetts, and Iowa in giving same-sex couples the right to marry. But in these other states, the right to marry was given to same-sex couples via the courts, not legislative vote! This is very exciting.
